Dorjan
Dorjan was born to Morfran and Brita, members of the Lord’s and Lady’s Guard. At age 10, Dorjan began his training as a Lord’s Guard, learning to use a dagger, a sword and bow and arrow. He surpassed others of his age and by 15 had been assigned as part of the young Lord Culain’s guard.

By the time Lord Adair dies and Culain becomes Lord of Augeas, Dorjan has risen in the ranks and is one of Lord Culain’s favorites. In tournaments, Dorjan is always victorious and none of the other guards can best him.

Then a stranger arrives from the mountains seeking admittance to the Lord’s Guard. Only those who have been born to the Guard have been allowed to serve for more than 500 years, but Gideon appeals to Lord Culain. A test is set and Gideon must defeat Dorjan for the right to join the guard. Dorjan knows that he can’t be defeated, so when Gideon defeats him and becomes part of the Lord’s Guard, Dorjan is furious.

Dorjan continues to be one of Lord Culain’s favorites, but Gideon rises in the ranks and is soon part of Lord Culain’s personal guard along with Dorjan.

Dorjan seeks magical power from the Ancient Ones to be able to control Lord Culain. When they refuse to help him, he continues his search until he finds one who will help him. That one he keeps close until he is able to take Lord Culain’s mind, rid the Guard of those who would oppose him and rid Augeas of the Ancient Ones.

Rayna was born to the Lady’s Guard. Her mother, Cinnia, was one of the favorites who served Lady Oriona. As held with tradition, she married Fynn, a member of the Lord’s Guard.
Rayna grew up in the castle within Augeas. Although she was suppose to stay within the Lady’s Guard’s common room, she and her Beatha explored all parts of the castle, often being warned by Nydia, the head of the castle servants, to return to their quarters.

By the age of seven, Rayna learned to wield a sword. By ten she had mastered the bow and arrow and always wore a dagger strapped to her side. She showed her expertise in the tournaments, winning many of the contests. She became one of Lady Lavenna’s favorites.
Rayna was loyal to her lady and to the Lady’s Guard. She wore her red robes with pride and when she rode her horse, Aoidh, through the city, she sat tall, wanting all to know she was a member of the Lady’s Guard.

Her beauty capture the eye of many of the Lord’s Guard, but she found none who captured her heart, until Gideon arrived at the castle. They planned to partner when she reached the appropriate age of 25.

Then she captured Dorjan’s notice and he would have her to spite Gideon. When he forced his attentions on her, she left him with a permanent reminder across his face with her dagger. He repaid her by having in kind by having her exiled.

Carissa is one of the leaders of the Ancient Ones who still live within Augeas. She grew up in Amunador, the Ancient Ones’ part of Augeas, and became a leader within it’s walls as well as an advisor to Lord Iden and then Lord Culain. She is revered by others, both humans and Ancient Ones, though she would not attend court functions as she feels humans beneath her.

She has a son, Kayne, and a granddaughter. She loves her son and is devastated when he is killed in the attack upon Amunador by Dorjan. Her granddaughter, Dyna, saves her and several others during the attack, but Carissa wishes it had been her son and not her granddaughter who had survived.

She is 150 years of age and has the ability to read and control minds. She uses her abilities to control those around her, including the other Ancient Ones.

Fleeing Amunador, she had to abandon her previous life and dons the orange robes of a healer. She is forced to live within a part of Augeas that she feels is beneath her station. She’s no longer revered by any and has become angry and resentful of the humans.

Carissa and the other Ancient Ones within Augeas have been harboring a secret since the death of Lady Lavenna. They had planned to revitalize Augeas and pull it from Dorjan’s control. Now, she feels that the Ancient Ones should rule the city and the humans. She feels the Ancient Ones should always have rule Augeas and now sees the chance to do so.
